Message I was in the same boat as you...i didnt want to paint the whole car and didnt want to put the work in and have the lip and skirts looking better than the rest. I will be repainting the whole car myself with a high quality job, just not quite yet.

Ive painted my hatch and Stillen lip/skirts with rattle cans and they come up looking great if you do it properly. Obviously not show car quality but it blends in well with the older paint.

What I did is wet sand with 600-800, spray with primer or adhesion promoter for urethane, wet sand with 600-800, spray base coat 2-4 coats depending on how thick the paint lays down, let dry, lightly wet sand with 1000+, then 2-3 coats of clear coat. After the clear coat hardens, wet sand with 1000, then 1500, then polish. Maybe white blends better, but its tough to tell it was redone unless your looking up close and looking for it. All sanding and painting done by hand with rattle cans. The quality of a paint job depends heavily on prep work and finishing work, not so much how the paint gets on the car.

The hardest part is finding a good paint color match. Buy a few shades that look close and go from there. Years ago when I did my hatch i found a Duplicolor GM color matched best. This past summer i found Prime Blend Gloss White matched best when i did my lip and skirts. You will spend some money finding a good match, but will still save money in the end.
